Wow! What to say about this song? The more I hear it, the more I love it. I think it is the most pleasurable sad song we have come across! The singers selected by A R Rahman are exquisite in their own way. Rashid Ali has really sung it well! Ok, about the chords of this song, they are quite simple and you need to know a few barre chords to be able to play this. I prefer to play the root and notes of a chord separately since it is a slow song. But if you listen to the second stanza, you can play continous strumming as well.

The chords used in this song are:
A (022200)
C#m (456644)
D (232000)
Bm (234422)
F#m (222332)
E (001220)

Mukhda

(A)Kahin to.. (A)Kahin to.. (C#m)hogi wo..
(D)Duniya jahan tu mere (Bm)sath hai.
(A)jahan main… (A)jahan tu… (C#m)Aur jahan..
(D)bas tere mere (Bm)jazbaat hai…

(C#m)Hogi jahan… sa(F#m)ba teri…
(A)palkon (E)ki… (D)kirno ne…
(C#m)Lori jahan.. (F#m)chand ki…
(A)suni teri.. bahon (D)mein……….

(A)jaane na kahan wo du(D)niya hai
(Bm)jaane na wo hai bhi (E)ya nahi
(A)jahan meri zin(D)dagi mujhse
(D)itni (E)khafa (A)nahi… x 2

The interlude music has the same chord as the above stanza.

ANTRA

(Bm)Saasein kho gayi hai kiski (C#m)aahon mein…
(Bm)Mein kho gayi hoon jane kiski (C#m)baahon mein
(Bm)Manzilon se rahe dhoond(C#m)te chali
Aur (Bm)kho gayi hai manzil kahin (C#m)rahon mein

(A)kahi to.. (A)kahi to.. (C#m)hai nasha…

(Bm)jaane na wo hai bhi (E)ya nahi

Here scale and tempo changes for the above stanza.

@sam.. Hi.. I think the song is in Bb scale but I find it much convenient to play it in A scale. Tuning the guitar by half a step will take care of everything.

@sparsh.. I prefer to play it as broken chords (play each note of the chord).

Hi Saloni, I usually play this song with discontinuous strumming (hitting each string of the chords) upto the first stanza and then continuous strumming. The strumming pattern can be discerned from the second stanza of the song. In the simplest form it would be DDU DDU DUDU but there are lots of variations. Listen to the second stanza of the song closely.

@Subhashish, Yes the original scale is Bb but I find it much easier to play it in the scale of A.

@Pradipto, The original scale is Bb and not Fmaj.

Hi wondering about the scale change when the chorus verse is repeated 2x at the end…is that a 1/2 step up, one step up, or something else?

The original scale is A# and in the last repetitions it changes by half a step to B. I posted here in the scale of A coz I found it much more pleasurable!!
