Pehli Nazar Mein, RaceI had been getting a lot of request to post the chords of Pehli Nazar Mein from the movie Race. The only reason why I had not posted it yet was because I didn’t have the time to do it. I like to hear this song more than playing it on guitar but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t worth playing. The good thing about Atif Aslam songs are that they are usually based on open chords and so are easier for newbies. But this song has one barre chord as well. So here goes…

The strumming pattern of this song can be done in two ways: One is the traditional Papa Kehte Hai style but I don’t think it would appeal to many. So the alternative is:
| D – | D – | DDU- | DUDU |
which sounds more like original.

The basic chord pattern of this song according to me is
A – E – F#m – E
upon which the whole song seems to be developed.

Chords in the song

The usual A, E and F#m (222442) only. No more!

If the F#m chord is modified slightly to get (224422), you get the most important chord of the song Kholo Kholo from Taare Zameen Par. I love to locate connections! :)

Before delving into the chords there is a riff played in the background which needs to be mentioned.

E-------------------------------------
B---10-----9----9---7------7---9---10-
G---11----------9---7------7---9---11-
D-------11----------------------------
A-------------------------------------
E-------------------------------------

Practice the above riff to make it sound perfect. This is played most of the time and also in the absence of vocals.

MUKHDA

(A)Pehli Na(E)zar Mein … kaisa (F#m)jaado kar di(E)ya …

(A)tera ban(E)baitha hai me(F#m)ra jiya(E)

(A)O jaan-e-(E)jaan … (A)dono ja(E)han

meri (F#m)bahon me (E)aa … bhool (E)ja … aa ha haa

Play the riff here

Baby I Love you … Baby I Love you … Baby I Love you … Baby I Love you so more

Baby I Love you … Oh I Love you … I Love you … I love you so …

Baby I Love you …
Stop the riff and play the basic chord pattern mentioned above.

    Hi Abhi,

I checked your chords. You have got them correct but the order is not. I think and this is how I play this song:

Pehli nazar mein tune kaisa jadu kiya
    F#m E C#m D

Tera ban baitha hein mera jiya
    F#m E C#m Bm

check this out and let me know and i will give you the whole thing.

    Cheers Bro.

Hi Kaylash! Thanx for reviewing my chords…

I tried your chord sequence as well but I don’t think they are correct. If you listen to the song closely you will realize that same chords are played at the end of the first two lines. But you have suggested D and Bm. Moreover they do not fit according to me. The place where you have suggested C#m has to be F#m coz it sounds more appropriate. Try it out again and tell me…

Here’s a hint… try to play the chords along with that part of the song where the “Baby I Love You…” line ends.. then you will quickly realize it!

    Enjoy!

Abhinav… the root chord “A” is correct and works fine with progression you’ve suggested. One can make changes here and there to the progression chords depending on how you strum but the root chord A and progression to E F#m and E are logical for most of the song. Well thats just my opinion based on playing both guitar and keyboards for over 15 years. Those suggesting F#m and Em probably need to tune their guitars …. or ears… :-P

I feel really happy when someone as experienced as you verifies my chords! I tend to go more by the ear than any formal training coz I am also learning as everybody else here.

@passion root chord is “F#m” and not “A”. And the song has other chords like C#m, Bm. Its really hard to decipher because every combo sounds appropriate. You finally end up thinking that you’re right and others suggestions are wrong!

Good effort there but unfortunately the chords are not completely accurate. Here are the correct chords:

The verse (mukhda) chords are F#m, Em, C#m, D
    The chorus chords are A, E, F#m, D
    The bridge (antra) chords are A, E, C#m, D

    Hope that helps!
